Granted, this is not always easy because some people simply have short attention spans. It is more of an issue compared to previous generations. Still, the goal of increased readership is possible. While the answer is simplistic….make your blog interactive….this not always achieved easily. Following these steps will help you with the process:

Visual Expression

Without question, this is of utmost importance. Don’t clutter your blog with too many buttons, advertisements, or unnecessary information. Do not put miscellaneous information on the home page. Create a separate tab for your blog roll and one for your contact info. Your layout should be clean and easy to read. Too many paragraphs in a row can be a big turn-off for readers, so be careful about this. Use interesting, and applicable, photographs to accompany what you’re writing about.

Incentive and Motivation

What would make your readers want to come back to your blog again? What value do you add? You need to provide your readers with a reason to return to your blog on a regular basis. It’s a crowded blogging world, so you cannot dismiss the importance of working on these issues. Take your strengths and your passions and figure out how you can spin them into a blog that will attract other like-minded or interested folks. The bottom line is that you need to produce content that adds value to the lives of your readers – whether that value is great tips and tricks or just a good hearty laugh. Popular types of blogs include foodie blogs, mommy blogs. funny photographs blogs, and various sporting issue blogs.

Update Regularly

Fresh content is highly valued both by search engines and readers. Give them a reason to return. Your chances of getting return readers, and attracting new readers, is significantly decreased if you’re too slow to update your blog. In addition, people like to share their opinions. Give them places to do so!
Add a tab for general comments and questions and enable comments on each blog post. Ask your readers to share their opinions and ask them questions. When they start interacting with you, be sure to respond in a timely manner! People like to know that there is an actual human being on the other end who cares about what they have to say. If you are planning a design layout overhaul, write a note letting everyone know that your blog is getting a new look. Assure the readers that even though your blog may be changing, your readers are still able to connect with, and interact with, you.

Now it is time to put these tips into effect. After all, these are methods to help you entice readers back to your blog. If you already have a steady following and are looking to increase that number, let readers know that you want to hear from them and that you want to write about what they want to read!

Keep in mind that readers want to be able to relate to you. Be human in the social space. This certainly is worthwhile when it comes to blogging and well beyond.
