The Facebook fan page for my company, Best Designed Blogs, is currently being built and more changes will be forthcoming, including updating the content. Also, increasing the numbers of fans of both Facebook fan pages is definitely welcomed and greatly appreciated.
For those of you who have set up a Facebook fan page, or about to do so, here are some helpful tips:
Be sure to completely fill in your page information. While you may certainly list only the information Facebook requests, feel free to get creative and provide other information, too. You may list your company’ mission, products, and overview. While I think of it, keep in mind that your company’s overview may include a newletter sign-up form, social media links, and links to other pages on your website. Plus, don’t forget to use a clickable website address. Don’t forget to add in the “http://”, or “https://”, in order to make the link clickable.
Upload a photograph or logo with a website address. While it won’t be clickable, it will give the fans of your page information about your website.
Be sure to post often. Make sure the posts are well written and worthwhile. Post every day or even several times daily. You want to show up in the news feeds of your Facebook fans. Think of all the options…news items, fan polls, questions, public announcements, product information, blogs links, and more.
Be sure to write a note saying “thank you” to those who become one of your fans. After all, viral content is built in. This is because each time someone becomes a fan by clicking the “like” link, or shares your fan page post, it shows in up in the news feed of that fan. In turn then, all the Facebook friends of this fan will then able to see this information as well.
Used wisely, and not too much, you may also send updates to your fans. Facebook fans don’t want you bombarding their e-mail inbox with a bunch of spammy messages. Besides, most won’t be expecting these types of messages to begin with.
Write blog posts about what is happening on your fan page. Post links and invite people to join your fan page.
Facebook has a version of HTML, which is called FBML. Use this to create a landing page. You may use FBML with Static FBML. You may find this through a search in the application directory, as it is not listed within the default applications. Using this method lets you to create basic HTML within a tab or box on your fan page. This will allow you to send people to a landing page which contains any type of message you would like to provide. This is different than sending people to your wall, as most people do. A landing page is valuable direct marketing. Done correctly, it may certainly increase your growth, and credibility, among Facebook users. Be sure to describe your organization and include a clickable button to “become a fan” of your page.
Continuing the thoughts regarding the FBML application, keep in mind this provides a method for you to add in tabs for topics such as donations, product information, an affiliate banner, website links, your newsletter, opinion polls, and so on. Basically, your fan page may serve as a secondary website for your business. The tabs on your fan page are similar to website navigation. Also, whatever you are able to put within the tabs, you will also be able to put within a sidebar.
Don’t be spammy or do so too often, but it is also a good idea to subscribe to similar groups and fan pages. By subscribing in this method, you will make yourself known to more people, and be able to post invitations to visit your fan page, too. You may have considered buying advertisements on Facebook to increase your fan base, but the response is generally poor.
Let people know you’re on Facebook. Post a link, or icon, to your fan page in numerous places, including your blog, website, e-mail signature footer, newsletter links, and other social networks. Also, you may have Facebook friends with whom you’ve developed a good relationship. If so, ask these friends to place links to your fan page on their Facebook pages. Be sure to return the favour on your Facebook page, if applicable.
These steps are definitely worthwhile. A fan page helps you interact with potential customers. In addition, it will help drive more traffic to your website, especially as your fan base grows. Be sure to use “white hat” marketing techniques in all aspects of marketing and this certainly includes your Facebook fan page.
