Most online marketers will readily agree that they enjoy getting to know their customers. This makes sense considering it is nice to engage people in conversation, including asking them what they like, want, and expect from you. Doing so is certainly an easy process. When you consider other common tasks of online marketing, including writing blog posts, split testing content, using an e-mail marketing list, advertising campaigns, keyword research, and more, it makes sense that marketers would prefer interaction with their customers. When it comes to this process, however, are you actually doing enough to encourage and push this aspect of your business along?
First off, don’t be satisfied with simply adding a few new friends to Facebook, Twitter, and the like, or adding a new post to your blog. Go out and join forums in your niche and then participate in, or begin, worthwhile conversations. Remember, you’ll benefit by getting involved in the internet process, not just thinking about it.
While there are numerous ways to engage, you actually need to step out and do so. Don’t just join a forum to sift through and read the conversations threads…get in there and participate. In addition to forums, anyone with a blog should ask other people to post comments. Plus, use the social networks you’re involved in for building relationships within your niche, getting suggestions, and soliciting opinions. This process, while not necessarily leading other people to actually do business with you at first, will help you gain a better understanding of them. Keep building the trust and you gain on numerous levels, including the possibility of a future business transaction.
Engaging your customer base whenever possible is a task you must not dismiss. This applies to both internet marketing experts and those who are newcomers. Step up and be your own research department to learn more about your customer base, including their expectations and thoughts. Yes, it is challenging and there is responsibility involved. The necessity of doing so is accepted, and embraced, by serious online marketers.
