When it comes to Twitter, don’t shortchange yourself when it comes to setting up your Twitter biography, or bio. I will admit that compared to some aspects of network marketing, the 140 character Twitter bio is certainly is not of major importance comparatively speaking. However, if you have not written a good one, you miss the opportunity to tell people about yourself, along with why you’re involved with Twitter to begin with.
The process of writing a 140 character Twitter message is easy for most people, but it may take some practice (practise) to compose a 140 character bio describing you and why you’re a part of the Twitter community.
The first step in this process is covering the three components that every Twitter bio requires:
1. Who are you? This should be a descriptive phase, job title, or overview of what you do for a living and who you are. Stay descriptive and relevant. Don’t say “I love ice fishing and the Toronto Maple Leafs.” Instead, say “Owner of a flower shop and loving mom of five children.”
2. Why are you involved? Be sure to describe your reasons for being involved with a flower shop, or whatever path of life you’re on. Don’t use up characters with saying “I’m on Twitter because…” Instead, say something along the lines of “Owner of a company that specializes in all aspects of online marketing solutions.”
3. What do value to you bring to Twitter? This is where you convince people to follow you. This will be a subject in which you are an expert, such as you may run a highly beneficial website, or you may have the ability to answer questions about a certain topic.
When it comes to what makes up a good Twitter bio, there are some that simply don’t work properly. Here’s an example of one that is a good attempt, but needs some polishing:
“I’m really love online marketing and I study it often. Looking forward to getting to know my fellow Tweeters better.”
While descriptive, it doesn’t provide much value and is too wordy. Here’s a better version that will get more people interested in you:
“Online marketer. Contributor to “ABC” blog. Founder of small business forum. Leader of Thursday online marketing group.”
Do you notice the difference and how much better the second bio is? It has a description of your expertise and the skills that make you beneficial to others. Yes, there are space limitations. However, it is worth the effort to make the most out of the 140 character limit, both in your posts and within your Twitter bio.
