Online Strategies

Some of you may have clicked on this article just to find out what the term “link bait” means. That’s great and I really appreciate this. Link bait is content on your website to which other websites link. You do not ask for the links. It is basically anything that entices other website owners to link to your website.

Link bait is helpful because it creates more links to your website and this boosts your standings in the search engines. Another nice bonus about link bait is that you do not have to ask, or practically beg, for the links. Remember, these links come to you. As you create more links to your website, and come up ranking higher in the search engines, you will be noticed by more people. Keep in mind that the purpose of SEO (search engine optimization) is to keep reaching potential customers.

Traditionally, links are hard to get. With link bait, however, you “bait” your content. While you may want to sit back as the process unfolds, there are ways to be proactive and improve your chances of success.

For those of you new to the process, there are various examples of link bait, including, of course, great content. This could range from an outstanding e-book to an urgent, breaking news report. Photographs also serve as link bait. How about posting photographs on your blog of the most recent industry event? Even if it includes photographs of your competitors, you might get their links because it is an additional way for you, and others, to let people know about the event. Also, a unique, handy gadget is another example of link bait. Don’t overlook using a widget either. Widgets create a link from the website that uses it and goes back to the website that created it, so that’s the link bait once more.

When you’re writing a link bait article, think in terms of providing unequaled value. Don’t rewrite a Wikipedia article. Your goal is to entertain and educate your readers. A link bait article should be viable now and in the future. It should also be well written and professionally presented, along with being comprehensive. Don’t take shortcuts when writing articles, especially ones that you intend to become link bait articles. Writing quality link bait articles may take time. However, it is a way to help your website rise above simply having standard content and that is an incredibly valuable return for your efforts.
