One of the older social networks is LinkedIn. Basically, it is a network that allows for networking between many types of professionals. When joining LinkedIn, you will be able to post a variety of information including a resume, school information, professional profiles, and other relevant work-related topics. As you progress through the steps, LinkedIn will provide reminders of what items you may want to add, along with a graph that shows a percentage of how much you have completed. LinkedIn will make suggestions, but you control what information is posted.
Once you get your profile set up, it is important to make good use of it. Be sure to add in people you know already. Two simple ways to do this are through your Facebook profile or e-mail account. LinkedIn has tools to help you through this process. With LinkedIn, you will want to add in reliable professional contacts.
Don’t overlook adding in connections at the second and third degrees. If this does not make sense, it will once your profile is set up. LinkedIn will make suggestions for you regarding this. Having additional contacts provides a pathway to other people. This allows you to make more networking connections, and does so in a professional manner. Along with adding to your list of connections, be sure to share your information, such as past professions and where you went to university. Of course, only list what you are comfortable with sharing.
Once you have set up your LinkedIn account, be sure to cut and paste your LinkedIn public profile to the other social marketing websites you’re a member of. If done properly, and professionally, LinkedIn is a valuable tool in the process of making worthwhile network connections.
