When most people are discussing the popular social networking websites, it seems most will mention Twitter and Facebook in the same sentence. Along those lines, when I am watching television, such as news programs, I often see “follow” icons for Twitter and Facebook. While I think of it, it seems like MySpace is hardly being mentioned at all anymore. I do not know why, but it seems like this option is not being sought out as much.

In any case, I have been asked by some people new to marketing whether Twitter is worthwhile. In general, the answer is yes. For example, it has the potential to bring in traffic to your website and allow you to build a networking base. It is very important to realize that it’s easy to make mistakes while using Twitter.

Twitter Is Not A Marketing Platform-That has been made clear by revisions to Twitter’s usage policies. However, if used properly, that doesn’t mean it cannot be used as a marketing tool. The main issue here is making sure you do not begin marketing too early. When you join Twitter, even if you are a marketer, it is important to build your social connections and develop a relationship with your followers. After this, they will gladly click on your links. It takes time, but the process is worthwhile.

True Interaction Is Highly Valued-Show that you’re willing to interact. Don’t rely on an automated system to completely handle your Twitter presence. I often get notes that are automated. In fact, it is not uncommon for me to get a direct message during which someone tries to get me to buy something. Not a good idea. Why would I buy something, or click on a link from someone, I do not know? It’s not going to happen. You may not have time to send a message to all of your followers, but you should at least take the time to send out a few messages, including direct messages, and tweets. Try to do this at least once a day.

Loosen Up A Bit-Discuss some of the lighter details of your life. After all, this is a social platform. Inspiring quotes, clean jokes, funny observations are all good topics. Other ideas include links for songs, photographs, and video clips. As a result, people will pay attention to your links and enjoy chatting with you.

To some people, Twitter is a lot like old fashioned telephone company “party lines” in which everyone is talking at once and there is too much going on at once. In a way, this makes sense. However, it is not wise to dismiss Twitter outright as a result. Twitter certainly has its place in the crowded field of social networking websites. Building relationships and posting your quality tweets will go a long way to having any chance of achieving Twitter marketing success.
