Social Media. To me, and millions of other people, it is one of the most powerful tools on the internet. Perhaps you think social media is not a viable marketing too. If so, think again. Social media has the ability to draw the attention of a few hundred million people. Think about that. Not many other things have the ability to do this. In addition, social media does so in an interactive manner. There are compelling reasons why you cannot afford to overlook the benefits of social media.

1. Nearly half the population of Canada has a Facebook account. On a per-capital basis, Canada is the fourth largest market on Facebook. In Iceland, the number is almost 60 percent. Add in the rest of the world, including countries with large populations such as the United States of America, China, India, Japan, and Mexico, and the numbers are staggering.

2. Nothing is more popular on the internet than social media. Even when checking e-mail, reading news, or watching videos is combined, more people still are logged into Facebook.

3. People interact with social media. Each month, billions of links containing videos, photos, and other pieces of information are created by users worldwide.

4. People spend a tremendous amount of time on the various social media websites. That’s not an understatement by any means.

5. Social media is built for mobile phones and other similar devices. You are able to access people easier than ever before by using this continually improving technology.

6. A big reason people use social media is because it is free. That’s a huge reason actually. Yes, some people may choose to pay for an advertising campaign through various social media outlets. However, most will not. There is nowhere else in the world where you would be able to tap into this many free leads at once.

7. People want to interact with you. Don’t try and sell people something, at least not in the early stages. People want to get to know you, and learn more about you, before they will consider learning more about the product/service you may be selling.

8. You’ll be branding yourself and your business. Be sure your actions within the social media field are of utmost integrity. Imagine the benefits to you, both socially and from a business viewpoint, if your reputation is respected by millions of others. Of course, you will have some naysayers, but you’ll far outlast your competitors if you use social graces.

At this point, social media is way beyond just having “cool people” using it. This “stuff” is not going away. Most definitely not. I have joined various social media websites. If you’re serious about your online presence, you must not overlook the benefits of social media any longer.
