Online Strategies

When it comes to writing for an internet based audience, you want the end result to be exposure and lots of it. Simply put, there is no way for you to have too much exposure, at least when it comes having to people willing to read what you have written. Like most worthwhile things in life, increased readership is not the easiest thing to achieve. Don’t be discouraged because there are methods to help with this.

In the world of social bookmarking, one of my favourite tools is Digg!
Social bookmarking is not a difficult concept on its own. Basically, for example, you bookmark a website and submit it to a community of other Digg! members. These members have the choice to vote for the website you’ve submitted, vote against it, or not vote at all. It is a way for others in the community to let you know if they’re interested in the content you’ve presented to them. If the content you submit to other Digg! members gets a lot of “Diggs!,” this will result in higher rankings and, in turn, higher levels of readership. The concept is easy to understand and implement, but is not always easily mastered.

Without question, content is king. The main ingredient in your Digg! success is finding something people are going to be interested in, putting into nice, pretty packaging, and instantly sharing it with millions of people. Your goal is to not only make people want to keep reading/viewing what you have presented, but to make it so worthwhile that they Digg! it as well. It is their way of letting you know you’ve presented something that is considered interesting and worthwhile.

Most people are curious. Think about issues that most people would be interested in. Don’t worry if it takes some time to get used to how this works. You’ll keep learning only if you keep trying. This process is definitely worth the effort. A seemingly endless range of interesting topics are just waiting for you to present through this method of “social media conversation.”
